L'edizione 2019 del Dubai Air Show segna la prima apparizione pubblica dell'e-racer in vista della gara inaugurale della serie di gare Air Race E.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Era il 1979. Nell'officina di un costruttore delle Midlands, nel Regno Unito, si stava trasformando un aereo Cassutt standard con ala a lastra dal muso alla coda. L'obiettivo? Costruire una macchina da corsa aerea che potesse competere nelle gare di Formula Uno. Nel 1980, la ricostruzione fu completata e il nuovo aereo, chiamato \u201cWhite Lightning\u201d, fu lanciato sul circuito delle gare aeree dal suo proprietario-pilota Andrew Chadwick.<\/p>\n<p>Per tutti gli anni Ottanta e Novanta, White Lightning partecip\u00f2 a gare sia ad handicap che di formula uno, di fatto diverse gare all'anno. Chadwick introdusse le corse aeree nell'Europa continentale, viaggiando con Fulmine Bianco in luoghi come Epernay, Francia e Friburgo, Germania. A Compi\u00e8gne, in Francia, White Lightning raggiunse nuovi livelli di celebrit\u00e0 quando un piccione vol\u00f2 attraverso la sua ala da cima a fondo!<\/p>\n<p>Al termine di due decenni esaltanti di gare aeree, White Lightning era stato incoronato due volte campione - a Meaux, in Francia, e a Rochester, nel Regno Unito - e poi era andato in pensione. Ma non dur\u00f2 a lungo: una nuova vita si profilava all'orizzonte.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Una ripetizione della storia per il pilota precedentemente conosciuto come White Lightning?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oggi si spera che il pilota precedentemente noto come White Lightning possa ripetere la sua storia vincente, ma in un formato completamente diverso.<\/p>\n<p>Martyn Wiseman, il protagonista di <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbus.com\/newsroom\/stories\/from-existing-sport-plane-to-e-racing-machine.html\">Team Condor Aviation<\/a>, ha preso possesso del White Lightning, un modello Cassutt pi\u00f9 vecchio ma ancora molto popolare nelle gare aeree tradizionali di formula uno. Il modello ha una cellula composta da una fusoliera in tubi d'acciaio saldati e da ali in legno rivestite in tessuto. Il serbatoio del carburante era posizionato dietro il motore, come in molti aerei.<\/p>\n<p>Come parte del retrofit per l'Air Race E, il Team Condor Aviation ha completamente sventrato il motore a pistoni e ha sostituito il gruppo propulsore Contra-Electric a due motori con elica controrotante che fornisce energia elettrica continua. Il serbatoio del carburante \u00e8 stato sostituito con una batteria da circa 20 kWh.<\/p>\n<p>Per Martyn e il suo team, la sfida ingegneristica principale del retrofit consiste nel trovare il giusto equilibrio tra peso e distribuzione della potenza. Infatti, gli attuali team - che vanno da ingegneri professionisti e studenti di ingegneria aerospaziale a hobbisti - saranno liberi di costruire e far volare i propri progetti, purch\u00e9 siano conformi alle specifiche definite da Air Race E. Queste specifiche riguardano una serie di caratteristiche, tra cui l'area alare, la potenza massima e la capacit\u00e0 della batteria.<\/p>\n<p>Alla fine, il prodotto finale di ogni squadra sar\u00e0 un aereo completamente elettrico, ad ala fissa e con motore anteriore.
