Il design dell'imbarcazione \u00e8 stato appositamente modificato per il GNL per ospitare i due motori MTU 8V4000M55RN da 746 kW (completi di sistemi di controllo delle emissioni IMO Tier III) e l'intero sistema di alimentazione del GNL - anch'esso disponibile da Rolls-Royce - nonch\u00e9 i sistemi di controllo e sicurezza del gas e il sistema di controllo generale dell'imbarcazione.<\/p>\n<p>Lo scafo, esternamente invariato, fu ridisegnato per ospitare il serbatoio del gas da 70 metri cubi e i consueti accessori del motore, e per offrire all'equipaggio un ambiente di lavoro piacevole. Le cabine equipaggio inferiori, il salone e la cucina furono spostati su un livello e la tuga fu ampliata.<\/p>\n<p>L'Approval in Principle di DNV GL certifica che il progetto \u00e8 conforme alle regole di classificazione delle navi marittime della societ\u00e0 di classificazione e alle norme di sicurezza internazionali per le navi che utilizzano gas o altri combustibili a basso punto di infiammabilit\u00e0. Si tratta di una valutazione indipendente del concetto di progetto all'interno di un determinato quadro di riferimento e afferma che il progetto \u00e8 fondamentalmente fattibile e non ci sono problemi fondamentali di implementazione.<\/p>\n<p>Il GNL (gas naturale liquefatto) \u00e8 un combustibile che si sta affermando negli ambienti marittimi, consentendo agli operatori di ridurre le emissioni dannose per l'ambiente e il clima. I motori a GNL non producono particolato, emettono una quantit\u00e0 di NOx significativamente inferiore rispetto ai motori diesel e sono complessivamente pi\u00f9 rispettosi del clima. DNV GL prevede che entro il 2050 il gas naturale coprir\u00e0 tra il 40 e l'80 % di tutti i requisiti di potenza di propulsione delle navi. Inoltre, il gas, laddove disponibile, offre costi di gestione inferiori.<\/p>\n<p>Stefan M\u00fcller, che dirige il Marine &amp; Naval Application Center presso la business unit Power Systems di Rolls-Royce, ritiene che l'uso di motori a gas puro ad alta velocit\u00e0 come la Serie 4000 di MTU offra un grande potenziale nei porti, nelle applicazioni costiere e nei trasporti interni.
