ACAMP And TELUS Join Forces To Advance Alberta-Made Autonomous Technologies
“Working together with TELUS, ACAMP will test and develop innovative new products for applications in 5G,” says Ken Brizel, CEO of ACAMP.
ACAMP, Canada’s largest independent advanced technology product development center, and TELUS, a world-leading communications and information technology company, announced today that they are working together to integrate next-generation mobile technologies with autonomous systems and robotics applications.
ACAMP is a unique organization here in Alberta that works to diversify industry and attract investment to Alberta by using industry-led advanced technology product development center that entrepreneurs count on to move their innovation from proof-of-concept to manufactured product. With their office at Edmonton International Airport (EIA), ACAMP has unique environment for incubating technology, enabling testing in a live environment with real life applications.
A key project the two companies are collaborating on is the communications link to an Autonomous ATV, which is used as a sentinel for security applications on the grounds at Edmonton International Airport. ACAMP developed the ATV and, going forward with the support from TELUS, will provide advanced, secure connectivity solutions. This autonomous ATV incorporates cutting-edge hardware including cameras, sensors, control systems and core computing devices, along with artificial intelligence programming.
“ACAMP is a leader in Western Canada in autonomous systems and robotics. We have been working with customers in this field and fully understand the opportunities these new systems create. Our plan is to use the TELUS technology contribution to test edge computing and IoT applications with our Autonomous ATV and client projects in IoT. Working together with TELUS, ACAMP will test and develop innovative new products for applications in 5G,” says Ken Brizel, CEO of ACAMP.
“TELUS is proud to work with ACAMP as future-looking projects like those they pioneer are crucial to demonstrating the power of Edmonton’s technology community, helping to attract investment and interest that contributes to economic growth,” says Ibrahim Gedeon, Chief Technology Officer at TELUS. “For TELUS, as ACAMP is incubating, growing and developing products, we gain insights into the network requirements of the applications and use cases of future technologies, ensuring that our network continues to be the fastest and most reliable network in Canada.”
ACAMP formed the Autonomous Systems Consortium in 2016, recognizing the potential for Alberta business to play a leading role in the future of autonomous systems. The purpose of the consortium is to facilitate collaboration between multinational industry players, local business, academic institutions and governments.
